The Black Gnat Dry Fly

This Black Gnat is either fished singly or as a dropper using a floating line and long leader. The fly is normally dressed with a floatant to help keep it above the waters surface. It is designed to represent a number of "bugs" which are normally airborne but have been blown into the water. This could be a mosquito/midge type fly, to a small beetle. Often this type of fly can be seen in clouds just over the water's surface, and inevitably some of these flies end up drowning in the water, and fish take these flies from the water as they land.
