Natural dragonflies are prominent in lakes and ponds. Their larvae favour slow water, and thus are found only in the still pools of trout streams. The nymphs are quite large and are favorite foods of lake-dwelling trout, bass, and panfish. The adults are usually incidental sources of food for fish, because the nymphs crawl out onto vegetation to hatch.
One fishing report stated that over 13% of all trout caught that year had been taken with the Dragonfly. They are a great snack for any trout, anywhere. Dragon flies often feed through the surface plant material where they are well camouflaged. They swim by ingesting water and excreting the water through their anus.
Fish these flies through the surface film and around reed beds.
